Hi there.
I’ve been teasing you guys for months and months—because yes, that’s how long it took to get these images nailed down—but I can finally reveal the covers for the paperback of SILVER IN THE BONE and THE MIRROR OF BEASTS!
So without further ado…
(Art by Tomasz Majewski)
As you can see, the team has decided to take the covers in a new direction!
While I love the original Lady of the Lake design of the SILVER hardcover, one constant piece of feedback we got from readers was that the cover made the book seem very high fantasy when it’s actually a contemporary fantasy. I hope you guys will agree that the new direction gives a more modern vibe to the series! When we first started talking about new covers, we were all in agreement that Tamsin should be front and center of the design. It’s nice to see her serving some attitude!
I mentioned this in my last newsletter, but unfortunately, the release dates have shifted. MIRROR is moving back a few months to give the new SILVER paperback some time to shine and make its way out to readers.
🚨 EXTREMELY COOL FREE THING ALERT! 🚨
Listen, I know what an absolute bummer it is to have a series—especially a duology—change its design ahead of the last book’s publication! No one enjoys mismatched books on their shelves!
My US publisher is doing something quite awesome and unusual to help make up for it—if you’re based here in the States, you can submit your information to receive a free hardcover jacket featuring the new design of SILVER so your books match! ⬅️ Just click on that link to be taken to the page!
International readers! Many of my publishers are still working out their game plans. Some will be adopting the new look, but others will be working with the original vibe. Please stay tuned! I should have some updates for you soon.

How about a little MIRROR sneak peek to celebrate?? 👀
“All right,” Neve began, her voice low as she scanned the few remaining patrons in the pub. “Anyone see any candidates for this Bonecutter person?”
We’d be sitting here all night if we were going to rely on gut intuition.
“I’ll make some discreet inquiries,” I told them, then added in a hushed tone, “No one stab, steal, or touch anything, please.”
I stood and moved slowly through the nearby tables. A chair screeched back behind me, and I knew without looking that it was Emrys. The smell of pine and sweet greens followed me through the pub’s cluttered array of tables. A fly would have been less annoying.
“Go back to the table, Trust Fund,” I ordered.
“No,” he said flatly. “Because you’re right about the need for discretion, and you’re about as discreet as a hobgoblin when you get frustrated.”
Don’t do it, I told myself. Don’t look at him.
“You really think she’d make it that obvious?” he answered.
No, I didn’t. Like him, the Bonecutter was always working the shadows to her benefit.
“Feel free to leave at any time now that you’ve fulfilled your self-serving desire for redemption,” I said coldly.
“Nah,” he said, stopping just behind me. He leaned forward over my shoulder, using his height to his advantage as he brought his mouth close to my ear. The back of my neck prickled with the warmth of his nearness. “I think I’ll stay. Night’s still young.”

RECENTLY…
Reading: I’m just diving into Holly’s The Reappearance of Rachel Price ahead of our event together and I’m loving it!
Watching: Guys, I am truly and irrevocably obsessed with the show The Traitors!! This is my appointment TV week after week, and it only gets better as the season goes on. Desperate for something to tide me over between episodes (curse you, Peacock, for not dropping all of season 2 at once!!), I’ve now mainlined the UK AND Australian versions. There’s something about the mafia-game style setup, the personalities, the camp, the editing, and the occasionally unhinged challenges that make this show compulsively watchable. The US edition is hosted by THE Alan Cumming whose glorious wardrobe is its own character.
Listening: I was utterly charmed by the storytelling in the podcast Ghost Story, which explores an old murder and the host’s surprising connection to it. As I type this, I’m listening to the WSJ’s podcast episode about how my publisher, Penguin Random House, is fighting book bans across America. Give it a listen!
Alex!! They look amazing! Congratulations on such beautiful covers! 💖💖
Can’t begin to explain how nice it is to have an author understand the need to have matching covers!!!
